Mamta Kafle Bhatt was a mother of an infant and a pediatric nurse from Manassas Park, Virginia. She went missing towards the end of July 2024 and is presumed dead.
Her husband, Naresh Bhatt, initially told police she had left their home after a separation but later gave inconsistent statements. Investigators found blood in the couple’s home that matched Mamta’s DNA, and signs that a body had been dragged.
Naresh was arrested in August 2024 on a charge of concealing a dead body. But in December 2024, a grand jury indicted him on upgraded charges of first-degree murder and physically defiling a dead body. He is in custody awaiting trial, which is currently scheduled for October 2026. There is only circumstantial evidence of her murder. Despite extensive searches, Mamta’s body has not been found. Police believe her remains may have been disposed of in trash that was processed, making a recovery unlikely.
